VF-17D Goliath

Purpose and role

The purpose of VF-17D Goliath was as a heavy combat veritech to serve as a replacement to the GPB-1S armor the could be added to the Veritech.  Instead this veritech was meant to fill the role of  punching through enemy formation, ships, bases and give support to ground forces for the air and on foot. 

History

After the first Robotech war.  Human and Zentraedi scientists came together to work on new machines, ships, genetics and weapons.  The Goliath was created along with several other new Veritechs to replace the outdated Valkyrie series for space combat.  They were designed to be piloted by Zentraedi and humans.  They were meant to give support and well to smash through enemy defenses in space, atmosphere and on land.  While only 90 of them were made fit regular sized Zentraedi and macronized humans for the Titian battalion.  The remaining ones were were created to be used for humans and micronized Zentradi.  While two thirds of the regulars ones were taken for the Robtech Expeditionary force.  The 90 giant ones and the remaining regular sized ones were on Earth to guard the planet.  Many of these participated in the Second Robotech War.  They inflected and suffered heavy casualties on the Robotech masters.  By the end of the war only a small number remained.  These were not enough to stop the Invids invasion but it did buy time for many Humans, Tirolianss and Zentraedi to escape to the Moon and Mars.  The ones that remained on Earth hid underground to form small pockets of Resistance against the new invaders.  The ones that went along onExpeditionary mission fought head on against the Invid forces of the Regent and later the forces of R.T Edwards.  They proved useful time after time against the enemy.  During the operation to take back Earth many helped clear a pathway for the main force to reach Earth but took heavy losses.  Unlike the other Valkyrie influenced veritech generation line that could mount missile packs.  It had could not mount it because, it had internal missile launchers.

Weapons and Missiles:

1x MC-17A 40mm Folding Stealth Gun Pod.

2 x fixed anti-aircraft laser gun turrets mounted center dorsal section in Fighter/guardian mode, becomes head turret in Heavy Battloid mode

2 x fixed small-bore forward laser guns mounted left and right of cockpit

2 x fixed medium-bore laser beam guns each gun featuring one retractable and one traversable opposite-facing barrels mounted on dorsal section in Fighter mode and in forearm sections in Guardian/Heavy Battloid modes

8 x missiles four mounted on each wing.

2 x 5 internal mini-missiles mounted in the shoulders
